Stormy Weather

On the way home from our Cruise, we found out that the Atlantic could get ugly in January. Cruise ship captains often travel within sight of another ship when it is convenient. That makes good background for snap shots, and provides a measure of safety in an emergency. But when that old ocean started throwing 20 foot swells, and winds near hurricane force at us, four of those big ships found each other and cruised almost as if in a convoy.

These are big ships. The ones that you see in these pictures are about 1000 feet long and 12 to 15 stories high. They are equipt with stabilizer fins so that they don't rock or pitch much even in stormy seas like you see here. They are also built to withstand a lot of punishment, and the only problems I saw were some chairs blowing around on the deck.

Even in rough weather, the evening shows go right on. Dancers dance, jugglers juggle, and even a balancing act was uneffected. But it is fun to watch passengers doing sychronized staggering as they walk through the ship.

As usual, when we got back to port, I was not ready to get off the ship.
